Small Groups

Small groups are a great way to get plugged into the Purdue BCM by getting to know more people and studying the Word of God together. Depending on the semester, we’ll have small groups tailored toward freshmen, guys, ladies, and general co-ed studies. Here’s what’s going on for the Spring 2010 semester:

Ministry Team

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you, And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” – Matthew 28:19-20

The Great Commission calls us as Christians to minister to others. Do you…

…want to learn what ministry is?
…want to see how to do ministry during college and beyond?
…want to be challenged to grow in your walk with Jesus Christ?
…want to learn what discipleship is?
…want to know how to disciple others or want to teach others but don’t know how?
…feel like you should get more involved but don’t know how?

Or have you thought about being on Leadership Team but don’t think you are ready or don’t have enough time? If any of these apply to you, then the Ministry Team Small Group is for you! We will look at how Jesus ministered to others and apply it to our lives. We will also study 1st Timothy and see what it teaches about discipleship and spiritual multiplication. As we study what the Bible teaches about ministry, we hope to apply it and use it to minister to those around us.

As a part of this group, you’ll be expected to:

· Be at small group’s meetings.
· Read the Bible and keep up with any reading we have.
· Come with a learner’s heart and be prepared to discuss.
· Apply ministry skills to your daily life.
· Limited to the first 8 people to sign up.

Crazy Love

Do you love God? Really? That’s a pretty easy question for us to answer without thinking. In this study we’ll be going through Francis Chan’s book, Crazy Love, together and investigating both what exactly it means for God to love us and what our loving response to His love should be. Come willing to challenge your ways of thinking and you’ll get the most out of this study. If you’re curious, you can find out more at the book’s website.

Man Code

We men are so predictable: As a way of avoiding even the remotest possibility of authentic relationships, most of us are quick to form a complex web of surface-level friendships, an ever expanding collection of “buddies.” Yet we never manage to develop even one really close friendship, and it doesn’t stop there. When it comes to the most important relationship of them all, the relationship that each of us choose to establish with God, most of us are quick to avoid transparency in that relationship too. This is where the Man Code comes in. We will discuss the important aspects of your relationship with God, your relationship with friends and your relationships with people outside your “circle.” This book makes several references to the Bible and emphasizes the importance of relationships.

Type: Guys
Book: Man Code by Dr. Dennis Swanberg
Cost: $9-10
Leaders: Zach Colvin & Justin Coons
When: Tuesdays at 8:30 PM
Where: BCM House

Jesus on Leadership

This small group helps develop leaders that follow the pattern of Jesus’ ministry of training people to do kingdom work. Developing servant leaders is what the BCM desires to do. This study will help you become a servant leader and give you skills that you can use not only at the BCM, but in your church and work environment as well. Mark 10:45 tells us “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” This a five week study the will give you a spiritual gifts test and personality test then show you how that affects how you serve in ministry.

After we finish the Jesus on Leadership book we will do an inductive study of Nehemiah, which is one of the best examples of a complete book that shows us how we should be leaders. During this time you will be asked to read two chapters of Nehemiah a week and come discuss and learn more about what the scriptures say.

This study is a prerequisite for applying to the leadership team.
